Alisha's Spa Euphoria attended the International Esthetics, Cosmetics, and Spa Conference in New York City this past summer. One of the seminars I attended was about "Greening your spa". This trend of going green is so critical to our Earth, our well-being and our quality of life, I am happy to be a part of it. I feel it is one of the most important trends of our time. I hope that as the glitter of going green fades, our everyday choices we make are healthy and earth- friendly choices that come naturally. I have been an advocate for the earth as long as I can remember. My father was an Earth and Space science teacher, so things like recycling and reducing our water and energy consumption weren't a choice! It was an everyday practice. When green practices started buzzing everywhere I thought, "Wow, why did it take so long for this to become the right thing to do?" It's never too late to make a change for the better. Here are some of the green practices we've always had in place and some of the new practices I've learned from this seminar and elsewhere:

What we've always done:

• Reduce, Reuse, Recycle...Everything possible from water and energy consumption, to office paper, and all recyclables.
• Our massage tables are made from sustainable wood and are built to last a lifetime.
• Made contributions to support the Nature Conservancy, Environmental Defense Fund, World Wildlife Federation, Arbor Day Foundation, our local Police and Emergency Medical Service, and cancer research funds.
• Recyclable skin care packaging to earth-friendly vegetable/soy-based inks and paper, Bioelements packaging helps deliver optimum product performance while positively impacting the earth.
• We use products that are biodegradable.
  

Changes we've made:

• We order our essential oils from a local manufacturer, reducing the carbon output of delivery.
• We have switched our light bulbs to energy efficient types.
• We've switched our laundry detergents and cleaning agents to 100% natural, plant-based, non-toxic, biodegradable household cleaners and Chlorine-free bleach.
• We've switched to cloth hand towels in the rest room to reduce the use of paper towels and the amount of waste they create.
